"Our House is Your House" Guest/New Member Bonspiel (open) Sat, Oct. 18, 2008

     This is the perfect first event for those who have not curled before and want to try something fun.  It’s a great warm-up for current members. It’s also an opportunity for former curlers to get their brooms out of the closet and stretch their legs without committing to a full season of curling. Details.

Annual Charity Challenge (open) Sat, Jan. 17, 2009

     An annual intra-club event for women from the 5 geographic areas of the USWCA. Round robin format (modified, if necessary, for number of teams entered). First place pins for each club donated by the USWCA.

Calder-Conley-Hurd Bonspiel (mixed) Fri-Sat-Sun, Jan. 2-4, 2009

Empire State (women) Rochester Curling Club, Jan 15-18, 2008

     The Empire State is hosted by three clubs: Ardsley, Schenectady, and Utica, the location rotating each year. Each club is guaranteed two slots in the bonspiel. Sign up sheet is posted in the women's locker room. The deadline to sign up is . If more than two Utica teams are interested in playing, then playdowns will be held Thurs, Sat, Sun, Nov. 6, 8, 9, 22, 2008.

Friendly Early Bird Bonspiel (mixed) Thurs-Sat, Dec. 11, 13, 2008

Results     Previous winners
     An in-house bonspiel with medals for the first two events. Additional events may be added at the discretion of the Chair. Events are knockouts with three game minimum. The third and/or lower event semifinals may be played on point. Finals are as stated in General Rules. Trophy presentations: Friendly Trophy by General Electric, 1957; Friendly Trophy (black wooden base) by Bill & Peg Rotton, winner of the first event. Early Bird Plate, 1957; Early Bird Cup, 1977, winner of the second event.

Glengarry Challenge (women) Wed-Sat-Sun, Mar. 18, 21, 22, 2009

Rules
Results     Previous winners
     A competitive, in-house bonspiel, open to all Glengarries, to determine the women's club championship. Competition will be 8 ends, round robin up to 6 teams, over 6 teams will be knock out. Teams are self-selected. Presentations: Glengarry Trophy (antique tea pot donated by Peggy Rotton; base constructed by Mr. Burnett) and pins to the winning team. Runners-up pin donated by Eydie Savett.

     A competitive, in-house bonspiel to determine entrants in the Marie Cobb Bonspiel (see below). Silver prizes are awarded in four events: Skip's Mace (first event winner), Searle Pitcher (first event runner-up), Rose Bowl (2nd event winner), Mixed Trophy (full), Mixed Playdown Tray (3rd event winner), Eric Haase Trophy (4th event winner)

Murray Club Championship (men) Thurs-Sat-Sun, Dec. 18, 20, 21, 2008

Results     Previous winners
     A competitive, in-house bonspiel to determine the men's club championship. The highest ranked teams at the completion of the bonspiel receive invitations to the next Mitchell Invitational Bonspiel. The skip of the winning team (Utica 1) has the responsibility to chair the Murray Bonspiel the following year.

Rose Bonspiel (mixed) Thurs-Sat, Mar. 26-28, 2009

Results  Previous winners
     An in-house bonspiel with silver prizes awarded for the point's winner and runner-up for 1, 2, and 3 game high. Scoring is based on points, and the skip-third, second-lead switch positions for the second game. Trophy presentations: Jack & Ann Rose Trophy (presented by the Boergers), 3 game high (team winning 3 games with the most points); 2 game high (team winning 2 games with the most points); 1 game high (team winning 1 game with the most points).

Turkey Spiel (mixed) Sat, Nov. 22 2008

Results     Previous winners
     A one-day event with teams created by bonspiel chairs. Each team curls two 4 or 5-end games; players rotate into a new position each end until all participants have played all positions. Turkey-related prizes awarded to all participants.

Utica-Rochester Friendly (mixed) Sat, Jan. 17, 2008 (at Rochester)

Previous winners
     A one-day total points event between Utica and Rochester. The highest total combined team points determine the winner. The event is played at Rochester and Utica, alternating sites each year; host club plays first stone of the first end. Each team curls two 6-end games; ties are not played off. Trophy presentations: Utica-Rochester Friendly Cup (winner), "The Monkey" (runner-up).

     An international invitational bonspiel, with extensive social activities, for out-of-town teams and selected Utica teams (based on performance in the Mixed Championship). There are six medal events. Trophy presentations: President's Cup, winner of the first event; Curler's Cooler, runner-up of the first event; Silver Tassie, winner of the second event; The Ice Box, winner of the third event; and Friendship Trophy, winner of the fourth event.
